Art on the Fence

Most schools have a UCLF  — “unattractive chain link fence”.  One innovative school in Georgia turned the fence into a background for children’s art work. Ford Elementary near Atlanta took student artwork and and created a unique outdoor gallery. The pieces were sprayed with a water repellant to keep them looking crisp. The beauty of this art gallery is that the displays can be easily changed, allowing for themed exhibits, or grade level specific shows.

Notice how the artwork takes your eyes away from the fence. That unattractive chain link is now an effective backdrop for student creativity. This type of school site enhancement is easy to do and costs just a few dollars for waterproofing the pictures and wire to support them. It really is a neat way to dress up a drab area. See if it might be possible even on a small scale at your building.
